From the recording You May Never Know

Sometimes we get so busy trying to succeed that we forget about the ones we love the most. Pouring ourselves into something, that in most cases just turn to dust after a few hard-fought decades. Often, we lose sight of what is important just to see it disappear. It is a reminder that those who love us need our attention and our time to show them how much they mean to us and to build that relationship on solid ground.

Lyrics

Here you are in the desert of your heart
Shaking like a leaf settled in your tree of pride
Wondering why your world and ways have been
Taking what you could, leaving who you love behind

You may never know if the pain is gonna heal you
You may never know what your conscience will reveal
You may never know what a life is gonna deal you
You may never know til you know

Family gone, you're wishing you had someone to lean on
Shunning all alone, kicking down the road of woe
Yesterday is always a mile too late
Sucking down the beers, drowning all your tears away

You may never know how the pain is gonna heal you
You may never know what a conscience can reveal
You may never know where a life is gonna take you
You may never know til you know

All the little things you put up to store
All the people that you have betrayed
You were building something out upon the sand
Only just to see it fade away
You may never know
